Goth

ssentially goth has become a way of looking at life. Its not as depressing and cynical as it seems, but we do like to pretend it is for a laugh. Goths are extremely open-minded, easy going and polite, but we don't suffer fools gladly.The main characterization of goth is a strong tendency toward creativity and self-expression that uses everyones secret but deeply rooted fascination with all things dark and frightening. The mediums of self-expression and creativity can be anything from clothing style, to music or books. The key elements of goth have always been imagination and orignality. And the imaginationand expression normally is very deep... afterall thats what makes it gothic... the deeper one goes the more intouch with their nature they become. Thus, the better the self-expression and creativity.

lack is the favoured color by most goths and is the primary clothing for goths. Looking like a witch or a vampire seems to describe what a goth looks like... But it is NOT a rule! You cannot tell a goth based merely on apperances alone. A person can be all gothed out, yet not be a goth. The same is true for a person who dresses like a vampire...they are not a vampire, they are just dressed like one! The opposite can go for a person who is dressed totally normal: they can be a goth too! Playing dress up is one thing, being a goth is something else. True goths do not try to freak people out with thier dress: they are merely expressing themselves this way. Goth is also a form of self expression. Those who are rich kids rebelling against thier parents are not necessarily goth. Now that goth is becoming a fad, it even more difficult to spot the true goth...I didn't just wake up one day and say, "I wanna be goth." It doesn't work that way. It's who you are on the inside, not the vinyl, leather or Bauhaus t-shirt that you wear. Sooner or later these "newborn" goths are going to drop the goth subculture in favor of the next latest thing. Time will show us who is the real goth is.

eneraly the personality of a goth is kind of dark. They tend to love dark poetry (Poe, Shelly, Byron) loves the night and romantices darkness. Now I don't mean darkness as in evil, but darkness such as a night with the full moon shining an errie glow on an old house in the winter.. with the bare trees in front of it, and a single candle glowing in thw window.We are trying to be beautiful and mysterious here. This is an art form! There is some focus on death, but once again we are not trying to be evil. We live in a society that shuns the thought of death. Goths are not obsessed with death, they just dont fear it.

ome goths believe vampires are a central focus of gothism...they are not saying that goths are vampires and that the living dead are out there stalking the night. What they are talking about is the myth and the legend, not the reality! Some believe goths who think about vampire alot should be slapped. Vampires are gothic things...goths aren't vampires.

ast but not least...(I'm gonna get hate mail for this one *grin*) Just because you like Marilyn Manson doesnt mean you are a goth. And poeple wonder why true goths get a bad rep, its because people think they are goth because the like Manson they are called Spooky Kids or Mansonites by the true goths. Alot of goths do not like Marilyn Manson. Personally, I do, but that doesnt make me goth so why should it make you goth. You can like MM and still be a goth.. but you cant call yourself a goth only because you like him. Marilyn hasn't ever even proclaimed to be a goth, and personally I dont believe he is.
